First Date

Going on a first date can be pretty exciting because this is a new opportunity to get to meet a new friend and probably a potential partner. However, the success of the entire dating scene also largely depends on how successful the first meeting is. And that is the reason why you have to make sure you know the right things to do, and the right things to say during your first date.

In order to ensure that your first encounter with your date is a successful one, here is a list of the questions that you should avoid asking on dates.

1. How much money do you earn?

This question is a no-no. In fact, you are not even supposed to ask this question from your friends. It is something that we all want to keep confidential and asking this on a first is a total and major turn off.

2. Who did you vote for during the last election?

In any conversation, if there are two things that are not supposed to be discussed or argued about, it would be religion and politics. So it means that when you ask this question, it may just lead to an argument especially if the two of you have opposing views when it comes to politics.

3. What went wrong with your last relationship?

It is always better not to talk about your past relationship, let alone discuss these things during your first date. What you must talk about is the present, and the conversation is supposed to be fun and focused on yourselves instead of other people, unless your date is the first one to bring up the topic.

4. Have you ever cheated on someone?

The reason why this question is not supposed to be asked is because it sounds as if you are judging the person you are dating before you even came to know them better. It is also not a good way to start a small talk because it sounds more negative than positive.

5. Where do you see this relationship is heading to?

It is too early to ask this kind of question if you are only on a first date. In fact, even you are already dating for quite some time, it does not sound right to be asking this because it will make you look like you are in a hurry for a commitment, or worse, it could make it look as if you are desperate to be in a relationship.

6. Why are you single?

Staying single is a choice and nobody has the right to question anybody’s decisions and choices in life. If you would like to know why this person is not in a relationship with anyone, let them tell you their story instead of you asking them about it.

7. What do your parents do for a living?

You do not necessarily have to know what the parents of your date do for a living, or you will sound as if you interested with their family background when it comes to finances. It will make you sound as if you are interested if the person is coming from a rich or poor family.

8. What were your lowest grades during college?

Asking this question would make your date feel as if you are questioning their intelligence, and it might send the wrong message, even if your intentions are clean, and even if you do not really intend to make them feel that you doubt them.

9. What are your spending habits?

This is another taboo when it comes to first dates. People who are in relationships or those who are already married even are not advised to question the spending habits of their partners. Although finances are supposed to be discussed in marriages, ideally, husbands and wives should keep their finances separate and they only have to discuss and decide who pays for specific expenses at home. But, it does not mean that anybody can question how you spend your hard-earned money. Asking this question can sound rude and insulting to the person you are talking to, so make sure to avoid this.
