What to Wear on a First Date

First date

First dates are important in a relationship because they set the tone as to whether there will be future dates or not. You often get an idea of a person and their interests while sharing your own. When you are trying to determine what to wear on this very important date, remember the following rules to help you dress appropriately.

Be Comfortable

No, I don’t mean wear sweats comfortable. Be comfortable in the sense that your clothes fit you and you are not constantly tugging at them. A first date can create a ton of nerves and emotions without you having to worry about the comfort of your outfit.

Choose Your Color

If you regularly choose to wear bright and bubbly outfits, then bold colors will work for you. However, there are some of us who has an entire wardrobe of three or four colors. Whatever your normal color palette is, wear it. Your date should get an idea of who exactly you are on the first date.

Daily Make-Up Level

What does your daily make-up look like? Most only wear a minimal amount or none at all. Take the natural approach on your first date, and give your date your natural face for any other day. If you do not usually wear it, stick with the natural look. It is important to let your date see who you are.

Embrace Moderate Clothing

On the first date, you do not want to wear your sexiest outfit. In fact, minimizing how much skin you show should be a consideration. If the first date goes well, you want to give them something more to desire. The first date is essentially an introduction and a foundation for the relationship. Let them know that by only allowing them to see minimal skin.

When To Wear Jeans

If your first date is in the day time for lunch or at a coffee shop, then it is considered a casual date. Casual dates allow for casual clothing, and your favorite blue jeans are acceptable. They give comfort and style without giving away too much skin. They can be dressed up with a nice heel or cardigan to give your style an edge without being too much.

Planning For Dinner

Dinner dates are often more formal in terms of dress code. If your first date is a dinner date, consider one of your more comfortable and moderate dresses for a date. Pair them with comfortable wedge heels, and you have yourself an outfit that is both trendy and moderate. If your dress is solid in color, be sure to accent it with a bold piece of jewelry that will make this formal date a fun one, and gives you the opportunity for self-expression.

Make sure those wedge heels are comfortable. If they are not comfortable, then scrap them and move on to your favorite flats. Remember that even in a formal first date, comfort is still the priority. The type of date does not change that rule.

Drinks After Work?

Maybe your first date is to meet for drinks after a long day at work. If so, stop by the rest area before leaving to freshen up your face and let your hair down. Since you are headed there immediately after work, while getting dressed in the morning,  consider a nice pencil skirt and a cute top for the date that can be covered with your jacket or cardigan in the office. Lose the sleeves afterwards, let your hair down, and head over for drinks on your first date. Again, comfort is key, so ensure that your outfit is something you are comfortable wearing all day at the office.

You Are First Date Ready

While there are many tips and rules to consider on a first date, it is essential to keep comfort as the leading rule. You should have the ability to always be yourself and feel like you can be comfortable. Something as minimal as clothing restrictions should not hinder you from being able to enjoy and express yourself on a first date. Dress for the occasion and keep your make-up level at your everyday look. Keeping things natural and in order will boost your confidence on your first date.
