What is IMBRA?

The International Marriage Broker Regulation Act (IMBRA) 2005 is only applicable for US citizens.

We comply with IMBRA regulations because there is no charge for any user to use our services. US citizens do not need to complete IMBRA forms if they use Dating International.

Sites who only charge men a fee to use their services are deemed a Marriage Broker and must adhere to IMBRA law for US citizens. These sites must carry out these steps to comply with IMBRA law:

  • Before meeting in person or exchanging contact details with a foreigner via a marriage broker, US citizens must adhere to IMBRA. IMBRA is a United States federal statute that requires US citizens to complete forms that certify that they are not on the Sex Offenders Register, have never been convicted of violent crimes and that they are legally able to get married. The woman must sight his completed form and sign it prior to her being able to release her details. She must also be provided with a US Government prepared document, in her native language, that advises her of her rights once she migrates to USA.
  • Failure to complete the IMBRA forms when a man and woman exchange contact details (or meet) can result in US Immigration denying the couples application for a fiancé visa when they decide to marry and relocate to USA.
